  • Costa Rica Tourism Records a Record Year

    The Costa Rica Tourism Board has announced that during the first 6 months of the year 2011, the country had 1,197,199 international tourists arrive through the various ports of entry in Costa Rica. This number corresponds to a 6.5% increase when compared to the first half of the last 4 years. Of all the tourists who entered the country during the first half of the year, about 807,000 arrived by air and about 650,000 arrive through Juan Santamaria Airport, and about 158,000 through Daniel Oduber International Airport. This data reflects the determined efforts of the tourism sector to highlight the destination's sustainability offerings and unique innovation.

    As the region of Guanacaste has developed through the years, the amount of flights departing and arriving has increased thousands of visitors to the northwest coast of Costa Rica. This year, the number of commercial flights has also increased in Liberia. On the property management and Costa Rica Real Estate side of things, it has been extremely busy since in the middle of the month of December. High end rentals have been book out since December. This is good news for everyone who works in the tourism industry and owners of the properties. The market of the Costa Rica real estate continues to grow. The infrastructural improvements in the coastal areas have ensured that the Costa Rica real estate is among the most sought in the Central America. The south pacific coast offers the best options when it comes to investing in real estate. Buying real estate in South Pacific regions has great potential in generating incomes. With its new access, more and more tourists are coming to the area than ever before. In fact according to an international survey, tourists have a preference for a vacation rental properties and Costa Rica is the perfect location to set up a venture.

    Costa Rica closed a record breaking year for tourism with a strong December of the year. The hotel occupation in the country rose up to 6.1% compared to last year of December, with an average of 62% of rooms occupied. The country took in almost 2.2 million tourists in 2011. The increase in number presented a 4.6% increase from the number of visitors last year. For hotels in December, it has been seen that a lot took Costa Rica Vacations. The Central Pacific has 70% occupancy in the region's hotels, Puntarenas and Guanacaste had neared 70% occupancy. The lowest numbers of occupancy were in the Caribbean, Central Valley, and Northern Plains. Apart from that, beach resorts hosted the tourists with 67% occupancy. The newly opened International Airport in Liberia helped bring the international airport a 31.4% increase in arrivals compared to the earlier year. The number of visitation is only a sign that Costa Rica has been able to remain an attractive tourism destination. The growth is accompanied with the length of stay and amount of spending of the tourists. The average stay for tourists was 9.8 nights in which they spent more than 954 dollars.

    Some of the biggest developers in Costa Rica have pulled the dust cloths off of their heavy machinery and are dusting off their old marketing plans in preparation for the next upturn that they all feel is imminent. Large projects like Catalina Cove and Mar Vista both in Brasilito have seen a surge in interest. Catalina Cove is blunt about it. We basically ceased all efforts 6 years ago when the market here crashed and went into a holding pattern to weather the crisis. The storm is past us and we are making big moves to prepare for surging interest once again in Costa Rica real estate."

    Both the Catalina Cove development and Mar Vista have recently revamped and opened 2 new restaurants in the area. The Club at Mar Vista and Ristorante Azul beachfront at Catalina Cove are bold investments and a strong statement regarding the rise in confidence in the area by local developers.

    While the real estate market has been soft over the last 6 years tourism has remained strong and as the country's leading source of tax revenue this means that investments in infrastructure especially for tourism-rich Guanacaste has been full steam ahead. Guanacaste has seen major investments and completion of a new modern airport teminal, the opening of a world class hospital facility, a bold underground fiber optic state of the art communication grid, and finally major improvements in roadways.

    The powers that be are suddenly bullish on Costa Rica meaning get in while the gettings good. If the last boom is any indication the frenzy will likely return.
